Sedation Dentistry

Pain-free dental visits for every treatment

A modern and comfortable approach to dentistry

Your comfort comes first

If you feel anxious about getting dental treatment, you’re not alone — many dental procedures may seem scary for most patients. But it doesn’t have to be that way! At Zenith Dental, we offer different sedation options to help take away any fear or discomfort associated with dental treatments.

We know that each patient has unique needs when it comes to sedation options. That’s why Dr. Richards carefully considers the type of procedure you’ll receive as well as your comfort level to determine the best sedation option for you before starting treatment.

When you visit us, we’ll assess your situation to decide if either oral sedation or nitrous oxide is right for you. We’ll explain everything you need to know so you can rest assured knowing you are in the best hands. Call us today to learn about our sedation options!

What being sedated feels like

At Zenith Dental, we offer 2 kinds of dental sedation: oral sedation and nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”).

With oral sedation, you remain awake throughout the dental treatment — although some patients may feel drowsy or even fall asleep. You can go through the entire dental procedure without feeling any discomfort.

Inhaled sedation involves breathing in a gas called Nitrous Oxide through a mask. Nitrous Oxide makes you feel drowsy and helps you relax. It wears off quickly and has no side effects.

“I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to technology! I’m always researching tools and techniques and get excited when I find something new that can help our patients. My favorite right now? Same-day crowns. It’s fast and easy to make a perfect crown.”

Recovering from sedation dentistry

After undergoing sedation dentistry, recovery simply means taking the time to let the sleepiness wear off as your body returns to normal. That’s why it’s important to have a friend or family member bring you to your dental appointment, and take you home afterward.

Some patients experience short-term side effects from oral sedation or dental anesthesia such as:

  • Lingering drowsiness
  • Headaches
  • Dry mouth and lips
  • Nausea and vomiting
For most of these symptoms, resting and having a glass of water is all it takes to feel better.
